Healing is...

I was thinking today about the beautiful sunshine here in Devon and the emergence of Spring (I could definitely feel it in my body today, a vague bouncing feeling :) )...and I was thinking that we will very soon be finishing Water posts and moving onto Spring and celebrating the gorgeous Wood element. I then got to thinking of the melt water of late Winter/emerging Spring and the feelings of flow V frozen in the Water element.
As I see it health is all about flow and the freedom of movement this brings; within the Five element cycle it is the ability to flow through each of the elements continually that brings balance and harmony to the whole. In children we see this all the time, they fall over, they bump their knee, we tend it, give some sympathy and they run off.
As we grow older, we add 'stories' and patterns that entrench our way of being and these can then get demonstrated through one of the five elements when we are in a stressful situation; a part of us has become stuck.
When we, and our energy, becomes stuck like this, we trigger a deep fear reaction within our Water element, creating dehydration right down inside our cells. Healing is when this fear reaction from the Water element is able to melt away so movement and flow can be re-established within the body, mind, emotions and spirit. Creating flow is the essence of healing and that is why tending our water element is so fundamental to health.
We can aid our healing simply by nourishing our Water element; drink plenty of water and eat natural foods that either hold water or swell when they are cooked, both these will give a reassuring and hydrating message to the body which will start the 'melting' process.
Anyway my musings for today, with Carol x

This is one of my favourite bits of prose, first saw it about 30 years ago at the Traditional Acupuncture college is Leamington Spa and I have a poster on my wall at home...reminds us to remember how precious and special our Earth is and how we truly would be nothing without it, the essence of the wonderful Five Elements... have a lovely evening, with love Carol xx

A little perspective...

The moon from my garden last night...the small dot is Jupiter. The huge planet is a dot next to the small moon. This is the perspective from my back garden, and its clearly not how they actually are in size. Made me wonder what problems/issues in my life I have out of proportion and how i might change my perspective to view the 'true' size of them. This was the message I got last night from my moon gazing. We have two more days to gaze with it. What message will you get? Happy Tuesday, Sarah-Jayne xx

Wonderful writing about today's full moon also called the snow moon or death moon. Pay attention today, and for the next two days while the moon is full, to letting the old slip away making room for the new signs of hope and renewal. Happy full moon! Sarah-Jayne and Carol xx

It's time...

It's time!...have you been feeling like a hermit in a cave hibernating over the last couple of months? I certainly have and I have enjoyed the introspective, quiet cosiness; I seem to have forgotten about life outside, my garden, my polytunnel, watching the wildlife over the Devon hills....but just this week the air has changed and I'm starting to think about seeds I can plant, the fire-pit to be enjoyed and the grass to cut.
The transition from energetically facing inward to facing outwards can be quite hard for a lot of us, there can be a tendancy to jump into Spring too early or cling onto Winter for too long, this in-between time, backward and forwarding can leave us feeling quite drained. We are trying to move from the dreamtime, filled with large 'airy-fairy' ideas to a time for action, a time to get specific; decisions, plans and goals.
One way to make this transition smoother is to start to peep outside and notice the signs of Spring, and on those Spring-like days begin to pencil in specifics from inside the cosy cave, bring some focus into your big dreams which will start to make it more real and achievable.
So on this cosy Sunday in February, feel the beginning of the Spring energy and ride that tiny wave for a short while, it might be interesting to see what seeds start germinating! Have fun Carol xx

Look for the Magic in Life...

I noticed these beautiful, heartshaped frozen leaves in my front garden yesterday. I was dashing past with a long list in my head, a complaining ten year old and a puppy-in-training who was being particularly crazy. It would have been so easy to miss them. In fact i did give them a cursory look as i ran past ... Then paused....and went back to take a photo and really notice them. Life can be so full of the 'to do' list that we can really forget to notice the little beauties, the synchronicities, the magic of life. So my challenge for myself this weekend is to slow down a little, and notice the 'magic'. Who's with me? Wishing you a magical weekend, Sarah-Jayne xx

Water is life!...

Water glorious water, the essence of Wintertime, we love to admire it in nature but so often we neglect it's importance for our body. For all healing work to be as effective as possible, our bodies need to be fully hydrated. When we are hydrated Water can be the cleanser, bringing flow and energy to stagnant energy pools within the body.
I like to think of the cells in our body as pools of water
on the shore line, the daily pull of the moon creating the tides that bring fresh water and life to those rock pools. Without this daily cleanse the water stagnates and life in the pool will become sluggish and eventually die. Our cells are exactly the same, they need naturally hydrating food and drink everyday to support the daily cleansing cycle; when our cells are sparkling so are we, it's as simple as that!
So today drink more plain water and less tea and coffee, eat more fruit and vegetables as these are perfect water and nutrient carriers, choose natural wholegrains that when cooked soak up more water than their 'white' relatives and are packed with good nutrients too, enjoy healthy fats in nuts, seeds and fish that nourish our cell membranes keeping them super semi permeable so water can get in to replenish, and out to cleanse.
Try for a whole week and feel the difference, water IS life!....have a lovely hydrating day 🌊🌊🌊 Carol xx

We love our work & why it's important...

'Which wave are you riding?' ....I was chatting to someone yesterday about the work I do and we (Sarah-Jayne and I) do at Journey with the Seasons and was trying to share the essence of why it is important to our health and wellbeing, so I thought I would share.
Our underlying philosophy is that we are part of the natural world and it is part of us, this is expressed in the Chinese Five Element m
ap that underpins our work. Each of these gorgeous Five Elements expresses itself most fully in one of the five seasons, spring, summer, late summer (harvest time, Indian summer, think blackberries and apples), autumn and winter. Each of these five seasons feels different in nature so it also feels different in our bodies, for example our energy levels are different, the food we want to eat is different, our creative focus is different, there is nothing comparable in how each of the Five Elements express themselves in us or nature.
Our work is to help you connect to the energy of the season, to get you riding the wave of the season so you are going with the natural flow, rather than working against it. If you can do this you will be able to make the most of your energy levels, use the strengths of each season to your advantage and work around the challenges each of the seasons presents.
We both have different passions within our love for the Five elements, Sarah-Jayne is an amazing Kinesiologist and so works with the elements and meridians through muscle testing, while I focus on seasonal eating and naturopathic techniques to support people based around my acupuncture training.
Of course life is never perfect and it may only be possible to glimpse the essence of seasonal living some days but those insights are gold dust because in that moment we can feel our connection to nature and the land and something bigger than ourselves. I feel lucky to have this passion and even luckier to be able to share it everyday...wishing you a wonderful day and hope you are still riding Winter's wave while she is still rolling 🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊with love Carol xx

Water is the messenger...

Did you know that the brain is 75% water and that in the Five elements the brain, memory, mental agility and concentration are all linked to the Water element? It is water that gives energy and flow to our mind and thoughts, enabling us to dip into memory pools and flush out new ideas that help us to be creative. I always think the network of neurons in our brain is like a river system, continually moving, flowing, joining up, splitting off as new pathways are forged, just like the creation of new ideas in our minds.
So when you are feeling mentally stuck, just check when you last had a glass of water, could you be dehydrated? If so take 5 to sip a glass of water mindfully, treat your body and mind gently like a dry river bed, slowly rolling the first mouthful around your mouth, breathing over it so your body gets ready to receive it. This is also a great technique to reduce the amount of toilet trips you need to make, as your body is able to absorb more of what you drink.
Have a lovely day, it's beautiful here in Devon, love Carol x
