I was thinking today about the beautiful sunshine here in Devon and the emergence of Spring (I could definitely feel it in my body today, a vague bouncing feeling :) )...and I was thinking that we will very soon be finishing Water posts and moving onto Spring and celebrating the gorgeous Wood element. I then got to thinking of the melt water of late Winter/emerging Spring and the feelings of flow V frozen in the Water element.
As I see it health is all about flow and the freedom of movement this brings; within the Five element cycle it is the ability to flow through each of the elements continually that brings balance and harmony to the whole. In children we see this all the time, they fall over, they bump their knee, we tend it, give some sympathy and they run off.
As we grow older, we add 'stories' and patterns that entrench our way of being and these can then get demonstrated through one of the five elements when we are in a stressful situation; a part of us has become stuck.
When we, and our energy, becomes stuck like this, we trigger a deep fear reaction within our Water element, creating dehydration right down inside our cells. Healing is when this fear reaction from the Water element is able to melt away so movement and flow can be re-established within the body, mind, emotions and spirit. Creating flow is the essence of healing and that is why tending our water element is so fundamental to health.
We can aid our healing simply by nourishing our Water element; drink plenty of water and eat natural foods that either hold water or swell when they are cooked, both these will give a reassuring and hydrating message to the body which will start the 'melting' process.
